The Most Tranquil Pool

Set in a rural corner of Auckland, this pool was designed to quietly blend into the landscape. With ocean green tones, imported Bisazza tiles, and a hidden pool cover, the finished result is subtle, elegant, and perfectly in tune with its natural surroundings.

 

This tranquil rural pool project was all about subtlety and integration with the natural setting. The brief: remove an old retaining wall and create a pool that wouldn’t dominate the landscape but instead enhance it.

To achieve this, we chose our Ocean Green colour, which shifts gently with the light and mirrors the lush tones of the surrounding countryside. Dramatic glass tiles from Bisazza—imported from Australia—line the step entry, while the far side of the pool was left untiled to allow the colour to melt into the horizon.

A hidden pool cover was tucked beneath the coping stones for a clean, uninterrupted finish. The result is a calming, low-profile pool that feels as though it’s always belonged—quietly framing the view rather than competing with it.

I was born in Canada, and grew up around Vancouver and the mountains of British Columbia. My love of pristine environments led me to New Zealand and eventually to the mountains, lakes and rivers of the central North Island which is home. My family’s heritage is here, and it’s from here that Korio traverses the planet.
